Taskforce Team Profile - Toll

Updated: Aug 15

For over three decades, Paul Symeonidis (Tolli to his friends) has been a steadfast presence in the industry. Since joining Taskforce in 2020, Tolli has brought invaluable expertise to the team. In this interview, he shares his journey, the reasons he loves being part of Taskforce, his favourite local coffee spot, and some memorable moments from his extensive career.

How long have you been in your trade for?

I first started my apprenticeship on the 8/8/1988 still going

When did you join Taskforce?

I have been with Taskforce since 20/3/2020 and loving it

What do you like best about being part of Taskforce?

The reason I am still at Taskforce is the scope of work and their professionalism. The crew at Taskforce are reliable, very thorough and always looking to improve on keeping up with all aspects in the industry.

Tell us about your most memorable / funniest call out.

I would say one of the funniest moments on Taskforce is when we did a job on Lonsdale Street. The property manager had been looking after the building since the 1970s and was quite a character. He told us all about the changes he has seen in the Melbourne CBD. We spent quite a few days with him and through my 35 years in the industry I have done a lot of work in the Melbourne CBD but quite enjoyed that moment with him. The man was quite a legend in the industry, a very funny bloke.

What is your top tip for someone just starting out in a trade?

I would say to someone wanting to start out in the industry and doing an apprenticeship, it's something that you will have to grow into, it's not something that comes instantly. Patience is a virtue and you do have to go through quite a bit to get to where I am today. I think it takes about 10 years to become masters of our trade. I'm grateful to be part of the industry in Melbourne and could not see myself doing anything different.

What’s your favourite coffee spot in your hood?

Favourite coffee would have to be 7 Grams Cafe on Church Street in Richmond. The boys there make a nice coffee and know your name as soon as you walk in and what coffee you want even if it's been weeks. It's a must try.

What’s your current favourite tune on your playlist?

I do think I'm still stuck in the 80s and 90s and I listen to those tunes pretty much every day. You can't beat a bit of ACDC to get me going in the morning.

If you were to hold a Bunnings sausage sizzle what cause would you be raising money for?

To be honest after spending many, many decades working in the CBD, I think I will do a lot more for the homeless. Maybe a food truck to give them something to eat on a daily basis. There is a lot of unfortunate people living in places that are not safe or warm.
