With almost 20 years of experience in the industry, Matthew shares with us his Real Estate journey and his insights into the challenges Property Managers face today and what he believes they will face in the future.

1. How long have you been in the Real Estate Industry and what pathway did you take to get to your current role?

I have been in the real estate industry for 18 years. I started in 2007. I have only worked at Nicholas Scott Real Estate. I completed a traineeship when I was 18, then I got into sales and started assisting the team. After 4-5 years of sales I made the transition to property management and that’s where I found my passion in real estate. I built my client base up as well as my experience to then become Rental Department Manager.

2. What do you think is the most pressing issue that Property Managers face in their day to day role?

I would say time is the biggest issue. With so many moving parts now in property management and changes to legislation there just sometimes is not enough time in a day.

3. What do you see as the biggest challenge for Property Managers in the next 5 years?

Our market has changed so much. We have had 5-10% of our portfolio that have sold due to increasing expenses and I believe that will be the biggest challenge.

4. What are the biggest changes you’ve noticed in the rental property industry since COVID?

The biggest change would be remote working. Most systems are now cloud based. I think its been great to have the flexibility as a lot has changed since COVID.

"In recent times we have had a number of changes to our industry and I believe there will be many more."
5. What do you think the biggest change will be in Property Management in the next 5 years?

I would say legislation. In recent times we have had a number of changes to our industry and I believe there will be many more.

6. Is there something that sets Taskforce apart compared to your previous experience of other safety check and compliance services providers?

The attention to detail and communication would be the biggest thing that sets Task Force apart. I liaise directly with Lance and he is absolutely amazing. He will deliver on everything he says and makes our job so much easier.

7. Tell us about something outside of work that is close to your heart? Maybe a charity or cause you support, a sport or hobby you love?

My family is the closest thing to my heart. I love spending time with my wife and my 4 year old son. We love our footy and we go for Carlton. Our passion is also for soccer and our team in our house is Chelsea.

8. If you could give someone starting out in property management a single piece of advice what would it be?

You can make a great career in property management, learn as much as you can as knowledge is power and not to take things personally.
