Rules for landlords change regularly.
Regular electrical safety checks came into effect in Victoria in March 2021, requiring rental properties to have all electrical fittings and installations checked and tested every 2 years by a licensed electrician.
This also keeps your property compliant with the electrical safety minimum standard which came into effect in March 2023. It states that rental properties need a modern-style switchboard with circuit breakers (compliant with AS/NZS 3000) and electrical safety switches (also known as residual current devices and compliant with either AS/NZS 3190, AS/NZS 61008.1 or AS/NZS 61009.1) installed. Switchboard and circuit breaker testing is part of RentSafe regular electrical safety checks.
